How to use the drawing program PAINT

Program Paint is a program for drawing and writing and where we can easily paint and process the image that can be later used or better inserted into other Windows programs.

1. Start the program Paint /Start/Programs/Accessories

2. About the Window Paint and its organization

3. Steps for creating an image

choose the background colour (white, red…)

1. 1. How we draw the free line

Choose the tool for free line drawing (the pencil or the brush)

Put the cursor on the working space

bullet

Press the left button of the mouse, keep it pressed and move it to shape the figure

3. 2. How to choose the colour of the line
Click (with the left button of the mouse) the wanted colour in colour palette at the bottom of the window. (The upper left square at the beginning of the palette changes into the chosen colour.) and then click into the working space.

3.3. How to choose the colour of the background
Click (with the right button of the mouse) the colour in colour palette at the bottom of the window. (The square below at the beginning of the palette changes into the chosen colour.)

3. 4. Choose the thickness of the line
Click on the line and then the special palette with the dots will appear below the tools. Choose one you want by clicking it.

With this tool we cut irregular or regular shapes from the picture.  The part we have cut we can move to different locations, erase it or copy it into Clipboard and paste it later into other programs.

arts of the picture can be erased with the eraser. We can make it bigger by clicking on + or smaller by clicking -. But be careful there should be white background chosen (The square below at the beginning of the palette should be white.) in the palette when you want to erase the parts.

Click the bucket in the tool palette and then the wanted colour in the colour palette. With this tool a closed part of the picture can be filled in with one click with the chosen colour (But remember! The lines should make a circle or other shape and the beginning of the line should touch the end of it).

This tool chooses the colour from the picture and not from the colour palette. You click with the left button of the mouse on certain colour in the picture and you can use that same colour to draw some other parts.

Enlarge the view of the picture to see it closer, to correct or fill in tiny pieces of an object.

 


 

How the program works

We draw free lines – very thin.

We can choose the thickness of the line.

Click this button and then click in the space you want the text to be, hold the left button of the mouse and pull it diagonally up or down to the size you want the text to be. Type in the text. You can choose the size and fonts and colours of the letters if you click the right button of the mouse (within the space for writing!!!) and here choose the possibility for text forming. Don’t click outside the rectangle for writing if you haven’t finished the text jet, because you won’t be able to continue it any more.

We can choose the thickness of the line. For straight lines we simultaneously press the SHIFT button on the keyboard at the same time and draw the lines.

Choose the rectangle. Put the cursor to the right place in the picture and pull it diagonally to make fictive rectangle. Release the button only when you think the shape is big enough. To make the square we simultaneously press the SHIFT button on the keyboard.

We can do them in a similar way as rectangle.  If we want to make a circle we simultaneously press the SHIFT button on the keyboard.

6. How we cut things

bullet Click the tool for cutting (at the top of the tools – fictive square or star)
bullet Put the cursor to the left part of the picture you want to cut
bullet Click and pull to the bottom right part you want to cut. (you will see the fictive rectangle)
bullet We can move the cut part, copy it, enlarge it or make it smaller, save it.

Save the cut part into the clipboard

bullet Choose the part you have cut.
bullet Do the Edit/Copy (it is saved in the clipboard)

Put the cut part into the picture

bullet Do Edit/Paste and the cut part will appear in the left upper corner.

Move the cut part

bullet Click with the left button of the mouse on the cut part
bullet And pull it to the new position

Save the picture to the hard disk or diskette

bullet

In the FILE menu choose Save as and then choose the place in the hard disc (C, D, E) to save the image..

How to give the name to the image

bullet

The images in Paint have the ending . bmp
Example: dog.bmp

How we open the saved image

bullet In the menu Files choose Open (File/Open)
bullet Choose the place( C/D/A:), folder (the name of it where the image is saved), the name of the document (bridge.bmp)
bullet Click on Open.

How we print the image

bullet In the menu File choose Print preview . If you think that the position of the image is OK, choose Print.
bullet In File menu choose Print. A printing window appears.
