MATADEPERA

The town of Matadepera forms part of the Valles Occidental and is situated at the foot of the mountain Sant Llorenç del Munt, a rocky conglomerate which at its peak, La Mola, reaches a height of 1,095 meters.

The area of Matadepera is 24.83 km2, part of which falls within the boundaries of Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt and Serra de l’Obac.

Matadepera is located 6 km from Terrassa, 10 km from Sabadell and about 30 km from Barcelona.

History:

The first documented evidence of the foundation of ‘Matadepera’, which was then under the jurisdiction of the castle of Terrassa, dates from the year 959. Later, in the year 1014, the counts Ramon Borrell and Ermessend granted the Benedictine monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt the freehold of Matadepera; later still it came to fall under royal jurisdiction.

Matadepera has now become an important residential town, where the services sector and construction are the principal economic activities.
