PROJECT TITLE

Film Reading  Education

Short Summary

The project aims at developing  critical skills in young people when they watch films. We think that this kind of education is necessary because of the large amount of time the young are “ TV  Consumers”. Given this situation it is better for students to get necessary tools  and the ability to read critically what they watch.  Students are given the possibility to watch  films , either  video cassettes or traditional  films. Then they are provided with grids and forms to fill in which guide them to outline the historical background, the characters, the story; They are also helped to  find out the differences between the written  literary original text and the Film version. They have produced  some of the materials which   are published in the school web site: www.polivalentenoto.it  . As the work  is in progress the other part  of the production will be uploaded later

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Duration:

School year:                From:  January      To: March   Tot: 60 hours

Children worked on the Project

3  hours a week

Teachers  worked on the Project

3 hours a week

Work has been done

Work has been done in class in extracurricular time

Short description of how the Project has been carried out

I  Stage: The  teacher holds  a lecture   about the film  which is introduced by  the help of transparencies (which are published in our site). They are meant  to   show the several   shooting angles  as well as all the technical device used such as flashbacks,

position of the camera  and   the different kind of its movements.

II STAGE:   this is the moment when the students watch the film. .The students  have the text or have read it before. If the film is about a classic and very well known  novel , they just watch the  film.

III STAGE: the students, who had  read the written version of the film ahead, now they compare   both forms: the book and  its film. In order to help the students carrying out this  task they are given  some guidelines  in the form of   forms and grids.

IV   Stage: Presentation of the film story by each group, This is the moment when different interpretations   of the film  come out; for this  reason  a debate  follows . Each group has to give reasons for their choices  and have to act as a  critical reviewer  in order to convince the other groups to support  their  thesis.

V Stage:  they write an article to be published in the school  newspaper and make a video recorder  of   their documentary film. They also digit all the material produced

USE OF TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS
Short description of how technological tools have been used

Technological tools
(videocamera/camera/digital camera/computer/Internet/scanner/printer)

How

The students have been guided to type what they have produced , to digit  pictures, to scan them, to  use the videocamera   and take into account all the  different types of shots which are possible  to produce, when they   have to produce  their own product. It is usual a documentary short video.
