PROJECT
TITLE |
What's Up" - European Club Magazine |
|
Short
Summary |
The What's
Up is a school magazine in English which started in 1993, as
an activity of the English department, aiming to provide the
students with an activity that would help them improve their
English language skills. Later it was integrated in The School
European Club, aiming to enlarge the participation of other
European schools in it.
Right from the beginning the making of the
magazine has counted on the enthusiasm this sort of activity,
together with working on the computer, usually rises amongst the
students.
Together with the edition of the magazine, we've been working on
an exchange programme (Penfriend Programme), which apart from
exploiting the potentialities of the exchange pedagogy
potentialities and making possible the exchange of experiences ,
has also made possible the collaboration of students of other
European schools in our magazine.
The Project to create an on-line edition of the "What's Up?!",
will open the magazine new perspectives, increasing its
dissemination and making it more and more a tool of
intercommunication amongst European schools. |

Short description of how the Project has been
carried out
|
The "What's Up?!" has counted mostly on
the students collaboration. The co-ordinating teacher has only
had a tutorial role, encouraging the students' participation,
proposing, suggesting, or even guiding (when it is the case),
but never blocking the students' creativity and enthusiasm.
Considering the difficulties the students often have with the
English language, it is natural the co-ordinating teacher's
intervention in what concerns the linguistic correction.
Along all these years we haven't had a fixed group of students
responsible for the making of the newspaper. All those
interested can participate in the different steps: selecting and
collecting material to be published, computer typing and laying
out. All this work is always supervised by the co-ordinating
teacher in order to get a cohesive final presentation.
We've always tried to keep the "What's Up?!" the most
interesting and attractive possible, varying its contend, trying
to keep a balance between the "serious" and the
"light" and improving its graphic aspect. |

objectives |
In terms of global evaluation the “What’s Up?!” has
been a very positive initiative so far and has reached its
objectives. The project started in 1993 together with the
Penfriend Programme (a programme of correspondence with students
of other European schools) and along all these years has always
kept alive its interest and acceptance amongst our students and
has known an encouraging growth in the participation of other
European schools. Nowadays we count on the regular participation
of 3 Italian schools, 1 German school, 3 Polish schools and 1
Romanian school.
The “What’s Up?!” , has also worked as a regular link
with our European project partners. |
